Whole Food or Synthetic Supplement ~ Which is Better?

Whole Food or Synthetic Supplement ~ Which is Better?

Most people think all vitamins and supplements are natural, but the reality is that the majority of the supplements on the market are made in a laboratory with man-made chemicals. Just like pharmaceutical drugs are manufactured in a lab, even if vitamins and supplements are labeled “natural,” they are often made synthetically. If most supplements are synthetic, the real question is: which is better – whole food or synthetic supplements?
To determine if whole food or synthetic supplements are better, let’s first define each…
Synthetic Supplements_freedigitalphotos.net-voraorn

What are Synthetic Supplements?
Synthetic supplements are isolated man-made chemical compounds. Chemicals are manipulated in an effort to duplicate the molecular structure of isolated nutrients.
Some synthetic supplements start from materials like petroleum, coal tar or acetylene gas. Other chemicals like hydrochloric acid are also added during the process. Even nature-identified synthetic supplements are still synthetic (man-made).
The only reason synthetic supplements are used more frequently than whole food supplements is because it is less expensive than using whole foods, not because it is healthier.
What are Whole Food Supplements?
Whole food supplements are made from real foods that are harvested and cleaned. The nutrients are then extracted from the whole food. There are other types of natural supplements, but they are not all created equal. Here are the different types of natural supplements:
  • Nature sourced supplements come from vegetable, animal or mineral sources initially, but they are highly processed and refined.
  • Food cultured supplements involve a culturing process in which the nutrients are grown in yeast or algae, making them very bioavailable. Yeast and algae contain the nutrients that they are fed in a whole food complex. Oftentimes, however, food cultured supplements are combined with synthetic vitamins in order to increase their potency.
  • Food based supplements are not grown into a whole food like they are in food cultured supplements. These supplements are made from enzymatically reacting synthetic and natural vitamins together with extracts that contain vegetable proteins. Whole food sources are not typically used in these types of supplements because of low nutrient potency.
  • Whole food supplements are the only truly natural supplements available because they are not combined with synthetic ingredients and they are not processed and refined in ways that destroy the nutrients.
Whole Food Supplements are better than Synthetic

When comparing whole food or synthetic supplements, there is no doubt that whole food supplements are superior. Here are some of the most important benefits of whole food supplements:
Whole Food or Synthetic Supplements_freedigitalphotos.net-lemonade

  • Whole food supplements contain whole foods such as herbs, fruits and vegetables instead of isolated man-made compounds like you find in synthetic supplements. Synthetic vitamins never contain the rest of the whole food complex, and without that whole food complex, whole nutrition cannot be obtained.
  • Whole foods contain a complex of nutritional compounds that work harmoniously with the body, while the isolated compounds that are found in synthetic supplements can cause biochemical imbalances.
  • Since whole food supplements are made with concentrated real foods, they produce nutrients that can work synergistically to provide whole food nutrition for the body. That’s what the body was meant to consume. Whole food nutrients allow the body to heal and care for itself.
  • The body can easily recognize and absorb whole food complexes. Synthetic supplements are chemical isolates that are foreign to the body.
  • Whole foods are alive. Isolated vitamins are not. It’s the difference between a whole live plant verses part of a fake plant.
  • Whole food supplements are gentle on the body, and since they are made with real foods, they rarely require you to take them with food to avoid nausea.
Why Isolated Nutrients are not as Effective as Whole Complex Supplements

When we consume supplements that contain isolated nutrients, our bodies must use components within our body tissues to make the nutrient into a complex nutrient. Many times, the other components aren’t present in the body, which means the supplement you took will simply be eliminated through urine. That elimination process can be taxing on the liver and kidneys when high doses of synthetic supplements are taken, not to mention it is a waste of money.

Synthetic supplements are scientists’ attempt at duplicating what nature has already perfected. And they just don’t stack up. They differ in two ways:
  1. The molecular polarity of the substance is different, making it more of a mirror image of the natural molecule. The problem is that the body continues to look for the shape of the real molecule, making the man-made version more of a burden on the body than anything else.
  2. Truly natural supplements are complexes, while synthetic nutrients are not. The body is designed to use food in its whole form and when the entire complex is not there, the remainder of the complex must be borrowed from the tissues in the body. They may have the same chemical constituents, but they will not have the same optical activity (shape). Our bodies only accept certain shapes, and by introducing concentrated amounts of synthetic shapes, it can’t always be absorbed properly. This means you could be spending a lot of money on synthetic supplements that your body isn’t even absorbing.
How do you know if your supplement contains whole foods?

Here are some tips to help you shop for whole food vitamins and supplements:

  1. Look for actual foods in the ingredients, like herbs, fruits and vegetables. If a product contains vitamin C, for example, and it is a whole food product, it will list what whole food plant the vitamin C is coming from.
  2. Synthetic isolates are indicated as chemical names that will likely be unrecognizable to you. Whole food ingredients are typically pronounceable and recognizable.
  3. It is important to keep in mind that for a supplement to be labeled “natural,” it only has to contain 10% of plant-based ingredients. That means that the other 90% can be synthetic. To find a natural supplement, look for “naturally occurring food sources” on the packaging or follow tips #1 and #2 in this section.
When considering whether you should take whole food or synthetic supplements, there is really no competition. Stick with something your body can recognize and absorb. Stick with what nature intended. Stick with whole food complexes that benefit your whole health and wellness instead of isolated compounds that may do more harm than good.

Generating Revenue

Increase revenue through new clientele
Patients are looking for providers who offer new services with superior equipment for
improved pain management and chiropractic treatments. Patients will spend an average
of about $35 - $110** per Chiropractic visit. If you have repeat clients of around 20 per
week*, your revenue annually would be in the range of $34,000 - $106,000**. If you grow
your client base by adding only 3 new customers per week you will be adding a total of
156 new clients each year. The Pilot® Diode Laser represents a “marketable service” to
differentiate the clinic and attract new customers. Clients who come to a clinic for a specific
laser treatment will then return to the clinic for their regular routine services. Each new client
represents a range of $1,700 - $5,300 additional revenue per year. Using the laser to attract
3 new clients per week will result in increased ongoing annual revenue of $5,000 - $16,000**
per year.

*Assuming you work 48 weeks year and take four weeks off for vacations and holidays.
** Depending on the region you live in and your typical charges and services
Increase revenue through new services
The Pilot Diode Laser offers a new modality for providing treatment for many chiropractic
conditions. The Pilot Diode Laser represents a modality of treatment that allows the clinician
to provide additional services and keep patient revenue that might otherwise be referred to
another facility.
Increase revenue through increased fees
Standard Chiropractic fees for treatment range from $50 to $150. The national average for
laser assisted procedures is $75. In addition, a three week treatment package averages $250.
Clinics that add and standardize laser assisted chiropractic offerings can easily add $1,000
in additional revenue each month without increasing or changing their clientele or services.
This increased revenue is attributable entirely by providing improved methods of treatment
on the existing clientele.
Increase revenue by utilizing trained staff to provide services
Every practice struggles with the challenge of generating revenue with technician provided
services. Many chiropractic treatments are all clinician provided services. Clinician provided
services allow the practice to increase revenue while allowing the doctors to attend to the
patients that require the doctor’s attention.

I had Bilateral Knee Surgery on September 29th, 2014. I have been
facilitating my knee recovery and my rehabilitation with a Pilot Diode
Laser, which has cut my recuperation by 50%. For me, being an athlete,
the Pilot Laser is an awesome tool for rehabilitating a major surgery or
any other ailments that need attention. Thank you CAO Group.

Best Tips for a Healthy Immune System

Best Tips for a Healthy Immune System

WellnessThe immune system is one of the most important systems in the body. It is what keeps us healthy and protects us from bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi and other foreign invaders that lead to illness and disease.

If your immune system is not up to par, you may find that you get sick frequently or you may experience chronic diseases that your body might otherwise have been able to ward off. That’s why we’ve compiled our best tips for a healthy immune system below. But first, let’s gain a basic understanding of the immune system…

How the Immune System Works

The immune system is present throughout your body and many organs, tissues and cells are involved. The skin is the initial line of defense, acting as a barrier against bacteria and pathogens. Tears in your eyes, mucus in your nose and lungs and acid in your stomach further break down bacteria and parasites.
The next line of defense happens in your bloodstream, tissues and cells. When you are exposed to a pathogen, millions of cells communicate and respond by secreting chemicals that knock out the invaders. The thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, white blood cells, antibodies and certain hormones all play their part in fighting off infection.

When you are exposed to illnesses, your body creates antibodies that can fight future invaders of the same type. In this way, exposing yourself to sickness can actually make you stronger, as long as your immune system is strong to begin with.

Best Tips for a Healthy Immune System

We need to support our immune system so that it can do its job for us in an efficient and effective way. We can do that by making certain healthy lifestyle choices and avoiding those habits that hinder the immune system. Here are our best tips for a healthy immune system:

Eat foods that support a healthy immune system and avoid those that don’t.
Malnutrition is the leading cause of immunodeficiency in the world.[1] Providing your body with the important nutrients it needs to function properly is a key to immune health. Eating more whole foods and home cooked meals while reducing the amount of processed foods and refined sugars you eat will have a dramatic effect on your immunity. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, lean meats and healthy fats, such as olive oil, nuts and avocados. Foods that are rich in antioxidants are especially good for the immune system, such as herbs and spices, organic tea, leafy greens and berries.

Take quality herbal supplements that support the immune system.
These days, we simply can’t get enough nutrition out of our food. Most of us don’t eat healthy enough. Even if we do, our crops are simply not what they used to be because our farming techniques do not allow the soil to produce enough nutrients to turn out nutrient-rich foods. That’s why it is important to supplement your diet with high quality herbal supplements that help strengthen the immune system.

Get consistent exercise throughout the day, every day.
Exercise is critical for the body for so many reasons, one of which is that it boosts the immune system into action. When we are stationary, our bodies begin to shut down, and our systems get sluggish and less responsive. When we are active, however, our blood is circulated throughout our bodies and the immune system is on higher alert. Exercise also helps infectious invaders to be removed through sweat and urine, and it helps reduce the release of cortisol, which in turn helps avoid infection.

Find a way to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
Most of us think it is impossible to get that much sleep each night. Even if we could find the time, we deal with insomnia, sleep apnea or other sleep disorders that keep us from feeling well rested. The importance of sleep, however, cannot be denied. When we are sleeping, our immune system is busy repairing the body.
Best Sleep Supplement

Reduce stress.

Make no mistake about it, the more stressed you are, the less efficiently your immune system is functioning. Anything you can do to reduce your cortisol levels will serve your immune system well. Exercising, meditating, and doing something fun can all help. Natural Stress supplements

The Best Practice Building Lesson I've Ever Learned

I've seen everything out there.

All different practice types and DCs.
All different achievements and stats.

But there's a valuable lesson so few chiropractors take to heart.
It's the difference between Achievement and Progress.

Our profession is obsessed with achievement.

The "How many visits do you see a week?" mentality.
I can be just as guilty of this too.

I just don't really care about # of visits per week anymore.
But back when I was a student  that's the only thing
I thought was important.

I was more curious with knowing:

"What's the most you've ever seen?"

rather than

"What's the best lessons you've learned on your way?"

"Has your profitability increased as you've seen more patients?".
My curiosity was all about what someone had achieved.

Not about how they grew.

No one is going to get excited
about your steady
consistent growth over the next 2, 3, 5 years.

They just want to know how many you saw this week.

Here's the problem:

The focus on immediate achievement often comes
at the cost of more consistent growth over time.
It's the difference between building
a practice super quickly,

yet finding out you have to
do the same things year after year after year just to keep it.

à Not Healthy

Achievement doesn't cause true fulfillment for people.

Progress does.

That's the research today.
So here are some concepts to consider moving forward:
1. Slow Increase Adds Up Really Fast

If your goal is to increase your profitability,
referrals, weekly visits,
or key referrers in your community
by just a small amount each month…
in 2 years you would have BIG change happen.
And small amounts each month is
doable and not intimidating

Imagine if it was just 4 more
patient visits per month, each month.

After 2 years that is about
100 more patient visits per week.

You may not even want to see
100 more visits a week!
The point is the option is more easily available
to you when you do it slowly and with intention.

2. Slow Increase Helps You Handle Intensity Later On

If 5x the average number of NPs came in this month
you may not even handle it effectively.
That's what happens when you go out and do
a ton of physical marketing or a Group-On deal.
New Patients come in,
get rushed,
treated poorly
and leave.

Never to refer or return.

Classic fast practice building example that shoots you in the foot.

3. Push, Push, Burnout vs. Slow, Slow, Never Look Back

Whether it's physical wear and tear on your body,
loss of passion because patients always drop out,
not seeing your family enough,
or realizing you're sacrificing yourself for
what some other DC thinks
you should accomplish....

Burnout isn't the wise path.
Slow and steady wins the race.

More importantly, there is no race

It's the journey itself that counts

Make your journey memorable
and inspiring to you.

That’s all you’re going to remember anyway.

And when you do reach your goal, it’s actually only fulfilling for a couple days max.
So might as well make your long fought journey there the enjoyable experience.

Your intended results will then fall into place.

New York City with less than $5,000.

He has since created The Perfect Patient Funnel System:
An online training program for chiropractors globally
to experience practice growth with more ease in life,
regardless of technique, philosophy, or location.

Chiropractors grow their practice by marketing smarter than harder
as 3rd party reimbursement declines.
The strategies also allow DCs to be THEMselves in practice,
rather than a cookie cutter model of someone else.

Utilizing strategies not introduced thus far in Chiropractic
PPFS members see increase in their practice
with far less energy or expense.

The Ultimate Guide to Thriving With Supplements

Are Supplement Standards Important?

When we purchase dietary supplements, we are doing so because we want to boost our health and wellbeing. We never purchase supplements because they taste good or because we have a craving. It’s always because we want to supplement our bodies with the nutrients needed to enjoy health and wellness. Since that’s the case, it’s clear that we want to ensure our supplements are manufactured to high standards and that what is printed on the labels are what we are actually consuming.

If we consume ingredients that are not on the label or if those ingredients are compromised with toxins or contaminants, we could end up causing health issues instead of promoting good health like we had intended. That’s why we rely on set standards to ensure we are getting the quality we are paying for. The problem, however, is that the U.S. doesn’t set standards to regulate how supplements are being manufactured and what ingredients are going into them, so there are often contaminants and unwanted ingredients in our supplements.

There are many companies that jump on the bandwagon of any new herbal supplement that Doctor Oz or any other professional promotes, and too many of them are more concerned with making a buck than they are with the safety and effectiveness of their products.

There are no requirements to demonstrate that a supplement works, or to show that it is consistent from batch-to-batch, or that the ingredients on the product label are consistent with the ingredients in the product.

In a study posted on BMC Medicine, 44 supplement products were analyzed and the findings were that only 48% were authentic, with 59% of the products containing ingredients that weren’t listed on the label (about 33% contained fillers and contaminants that weren’t on the label, and another 33% contained substituted ingredients and none of the ingredients on the label). According to Science-Based Medicine, “Some of the products were of such poor quality that harms could be expected.”

European vs. American Standards

European standards for supplements are strict. The European Commission has put many directives in place to ensure supplements are safe and effective. Here are the main differences between European and American supplement standards:

·         In Europe, supplements are regulated as foods and it is done before the product is allowed to go to market. In the US, dietary supplements are regulated differently from food and drugs. The FDA puts the responsibility on the manufacturer to follow the guidelines and regulations for safety and efficacy, and the FDA is responsible for acting after the product hits the market if complaints are filed.
·         In Europe, a list of vitamins and minerals that are safe to use in supplements is provided, and if a supplement manufacturer wants to use a vitamin or mineral that is not on that list, premarket approval must be received to ensure their safety before going to market (this process can take 2-3 years to achieve and can cost $119,999 - $372,000). In the US, anyone can sell supplements without premarket approval, and specific ingredients are not looked at.
·         Since excessive amounts of vitamins and minerals can lead to adverse effects, maximum levels have been set for each vitamin and mineral used in a supplement in Europe. The US has no such regulation on dosages.

·         GMOs are not allowed in European supplements. In the US, there is no such regulation.
